Kukkarahalli Lake
Kukkarahalli Lake is the closest green spot to Huyilalu. Locals walk the lakeside track every morning and evening. Go early and you will spot painted storks and pelicans. The university campus sits right next to the lake. This gives the walk a calm, green feel.
Mysore Palace
Mysore Palace stays the city's biggest draw. It sits under 10 km from Huyilalu. Inside, you will find royal halls and stained glass ceilings. Try to visit on a Sunday evening. During Dasara, nearly 100,000 bulbs light up the palace. The sight is worth the short drive.
St. Philomena's Cathedral
This church ranks among the tallest in Asia. Its twin spires rise high above the city. They make a great photo stop. Inside, stained glass windows show scenes from the Bible.
Chamundi Hill
Chamundi Hill rises about 1,000 metres. From the top, you get a full view of Mysuru city. The Chamundeshwari temple sits at the summit. Devotees visit through the year. On the way up, you will pass a huge stone bull. This Nandi statue is carved from a single rock. Near the top stands another large statue, of Mahishasura.
Brindavan Gardens and KRS Dam
Brindavan Gardens sits next to the KRS Dam. Its terraced lawns and musical fountain draw big crowds. The fountain show runs only on select evenings. Check the timing before you set out. Pair this trip with a stop at the dam viewpoint.
Srirangapatna and Ranganathittu
Srirangapatna holds Tipu Sultan's old summer palace. Fort ruins still stand near the river. The town also has the Ranganathaswamy temple. A short drive further takes you to Ranganathittu. Here, a boat ride puts you close to storks and herons. Watch closely and you may spot a crocodile too.
